Crochet newborn beanie & leggings pattern.

There are so many clever people out there, clever people who measure every inch of a newborn baby…..the circumference of their little heads, the widths of their chests, the inches from their waist to their ankles even to their tiny little feet.

This information is extremely useful when trying to make a crochet newborn outfit (leggings & beanie) without a pattern. I know there are a gazillion patterns out there, but to be honest I battle to stick to a pattern. I end up changing the hook size, the type of wool and even the pattern itself and then halfway through the crochet item, I realize it’s too small or too big. A quick visit to google and presto you have a host of newborn measurements….this is the one I found most useful.

For the Leggings

Ribbing – done in grey
Row 1: ch 8. hdc in the second chain from the hook and in each ch across.
Row 2-46: turn and ch 1. hdc in each hdc across back loops only (this creates the ribbing effect).
After the last row is complete for the ribbing, fold the ribbing in half and align the first ch 8 to the last row of hdc. ss these rows together (still only using the back loops) to create the waistband of the pants. Once joined, the piece should measure 7 inches across.
Row 1: With your yarn still attached to the waistband you just created, ch 1. sc into the side of the first hdc row and all the way around. You should have a total of 46 sc. You might have to jingle the stitch count a little. Slip stitch to join.
Row 2: Sc into each stitch around, join 46sc
Change colour to white.
